LEITHTON VILDAY 5 MILE CHARITY WALK SUNDAY 28TH MAY Date: 02 Jun 06This years annual 5 mile sponsored charity walk in aid of Leighton Vilday aged 14 who is suffering from an inoperable brain tumour was held on Sunday 28th May. Our previous walk raised £17300.00 for Daniel Hall and we thought we would do well to match this but as usual the Brookhouse regulars and local community did us proud and raised the enormous sum of £27500.00.
We must thank all our friends from Kent where Leighton now lives with his mum who travelled down by the bus loads to help support this major event. They are all welcome back at any time. Thanks again.
As you can imagine an event of this enormity takes a huge effort by alot of people, but in particular Michelle Millard and Adam Frailing who put an enormous amount of effort into organising this event and alot of the success is down to them. A big thank you to the hardworking staff of the Brookhouse who opened up early on the day and worked without breaks, there efforts did not go unnoticed. A big thank you to ticket sellers, bbq helpers, bouncy castle, pool game, bucket collecters and of course the walkers, without all their efforts nothing could be achieved. (Unfortunately Michelle is a Chelsea supporter but what the heck no-ones perfect!!!!!!)
Leighton and his family are going on a well overdue holiday to Greece with his family in August and he is keen to donate money to The Royal Marsden hospital to help in the treatment of other youngsters who suffer from this illness.
On a personal note when you see so many good hearted and kind people in one place at the one time it is days like this that I realise what a wonderful pub I am lucky to have.
